New Jersey has a long history and we are often reminded of this by areas of the towns where we live that are really the remnants of previously vibrant towns on their own. Today we will visit 3 such places in Morris and Sussex County.
Starting at the Panera Bread on RT 10 in Denville we will head west to fist pass through Randolph NJ where the community of Ironia exists today as a section of the town. Only a general store is readily visible but home and artifacts line the roads in the area. Next we start to head north to Huntsville in Sussex County. A stone house and historic marker will let us know when we arrive. From there we go farther north to our last lost town Stillwater and a break at Swartswood State Park.
After leaving the park we will traverse some of scenic Sussex County to Sparta and the Anthony Francos Restaurant & Pizza in the Sparta Town Center. If interested there is a good ice cream place nearby that will be revealed on the day of the event.
We will offer 2 registration options, there will be NO written directions:
Follow the leader – run with the large group GPS Routes will be provided for reference.
Follow the directions – you will be provided with a link to the Rallista App. I will also provide a GPX file if you know what to do with that. Form small groups or run by yourself. These drivers will leave 15 min before the large group.
