I just bought a 1999 Miata, with 14" wheels. I checked with my local custom shop and was told there's not much of selection out there. 15" much more so. My question is can I replace the 14" with 15" wheels and tires.and will the larger wheels and tires effect steering? Like rubbing on fenders.

For the 1999 Miata, Tire Rack lists the following wheel sizes:  14" (OE), 15" (+1), 16" (+2), 17" (+3), and 18" (+4).  I went to a 15" wheel (+1) on my '93 and was very happy with them.  Standard equipment for my '04 MazdaSpeed Miata is 17" wheels with 205/40R tires.  This was also standard on the '05 MazdaSpeed.  The larger the wheel, the lower profile the tire, and, in general, the harsher the ride.  Look here.

Thanks for all the info. Do you have any problem with the 15 inch tire rubbing on the fender.

No, I had no problems.  Call Tire Rack.  The techs are very helpful and will work with you to take care of all wheel fitment and tire questions as well as any specific requirements you may have.

    Hi

When I'm ready to change tires and wheels I'll check out Tire Rack.

The tires on the car are almost brand new.

    Thanks

    Hank.
